It’s been blowing snow for the last hour; the wind has been howling all day—it really feels cold! What a terrible night to be travelling! And yet I know many families are doing just that—heading out to be at “home” for Thanksgiving. It’s the biggest travel day of the season and we just want to get where we are going and enjoy the time together.
So what will you do this weekend? How will you spend your time?
A while back I saw a sign that reads, “Everything takes longer than it actually does.” Isn’t that the truth! I often find myself underestimating how long projects will take. “Oh, that will take me thirty minutes to complete.” And it ends up taking several hours between a half dozen trips back and forth to my garage looking for the right piece of hardware or tool, a trip into Menards, and one or two phone calls asking for advice. Everything turns out well in the end; it is just that my schedule is thrown out of whack.
Just two weeks from now, we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving. At our house, I slip out for a morning hunt, then sometime around noon we feast on all sorts of our favorite dishes which usually revolve around turkey. Then most of the family will go off to read, watch a movie or play X-Box while I watch the Packers play football.
But wait. Something important is missing. I never mentioned anything about giving thanks. Doh! Sort of the whole point of the holiday isn't it?
