The news this morning is that Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is stepping down tonight as protests against him continue. He is scheduled to make a television broadcast to make the announcement. News sources believe that the newly appointed vice president, Omar Suleiman, would take over.
Although there has been loss of life and violence during the last two weeks of protest; it has been minimal compared to what might have occurred if the military had been used to crack down on the protesters. My concern has been that President Mubarak would use any and every means to hold onto the power that he has wielded for the last 30 years.
